I have been reading David []founder of Basecam since his first book in my 20s. Same cool feeling on they do every time.
Hey is one of the best web apps I know. On stage, David said it was a web app for one reason: a small team could not maintain six native apps. The same reason gave us React Native and Hotwire Native. Productivity for the team, a hit on fidelity for the user.
That reason is gone. Three facts from the talk:
→ His team kicked off six native Hey apps about a week before the keynote. The demo ran behind him while he spoke.
→ Shopify replaced the React Native Shop app with a native rewrite. About six people.
His conclusion: apps that are web apps out of convenience, team size or budget will not stay web apps much longer. The cost of native has gone to near ZERO.
The web keeps the products that never ask you to install anything.
Everything that wanted to be native will be native.
