hired three junior devs last month
So we posted a standard full-stack position expecting the usual circus of leetcode warriors and bootcamp grads talking about their MERN expertise.
What we got instead was wild. Kids straight up submitting fully functional SaaS products as their "portfolio projects." Not hello world apps. Real shit with auth, payments, the works. One 19-year-old built a logistics platform in 8 days using Claude Code and some open-weight model I'd never heard of.
But here's the thing that's messing with my head. During technical interviews, none of them could fizzbuzz without AI assistance. Like, genuinely struggled with basic loops. Yet they're architecting microservices and handling database migrations like it's nothing.
We ended up hiring three of them at 85k each (which felt insane six months ago, now feels like we're stealing talent). They've been here two weeks and already shipped features that our senior team estimated at 3 sprints. The oldest one is 22.
My CTO keeps playing this Tame Impala song on repeat while staring at our velocity metrics. Says it reminds him of when the iPhone launched and everyone realized Nokia was toast.
Starting to think the whole "10x engineer" thing was just regular engineers without AI competing against each other. Now that everyone has access to reasoning models, the skill floor just got nuked.
Anyone else completely rethinking their hiring pipeline or is it just us watching everything flip?
